Politics: Steadfast McCain lays out platform at RNC
A fired-up crowd gathered at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota for the encore of the Republican National Convention Thursday night. Interrupted by frequent uproars of applause and spirited chants by the thousands in attendance, Arizona senator and Republican presidential nominee John McCain put a cap on the four-day conservative pep rally with his speech that ran the gamut from political revolution to personal anguish and modesty. For the 72-year-old congressman, it was one last chance to endear himself to the nation with only eight weeks left before Election Day. For the rest of us, Thursday night was an impactful ending to a powerful 10 days during which each major party threw itself at the country in preparation for the stretch run leading up to perhaps the most crucial presidential race in American history.
