Obama Lifts Stem Cell Restrictions
Here’s a bit of video from President Obama’s address moments before he signed an executive order Monday lifting restrictions on stem cell research set forth by former president Bush.
Furthermore, he also inked a presidential memorandum bestowing more freedom upon federal science programs.
Obama promised to instill strict guidelines and governmental oversight for research he says will not mutually exclude “sound science and moral values.”
“In this case, I believe the two are not inconsistent,” Obama said. “As a person of faith, I believe we are called to care for each other and work to ease human suffering. I believe we have been given the capacity and will to pursue this research — and the humanity and conscience to do so responsibly.”
Obama praised the bi-partisan support for the order, yet some conservatives are accusing the president of staging a distraction from the sad state of the nation’s economy.
